Nay Thwin Nyein is an experienced Burmese journalist with a career spanning over twenty years.

In his career, he has dedicated himself to promoting democracy, human rights, and freedom of speech in Burma (also known as Myanmar).

He started his journey in 2004 with the Thai-Burma border based magazine (MOJO) covering politics inside Burma and distributing monthly magazines for Burmese migrants in Thailand.

In mid-2008, he joined Democratic Voice for Burma (DVB), an exiled Burmese media. Nay Thwin reported for online, radio, TV in his exile journalist life.

He also worked for Indonesia based radio program (KBR68H) by reporting radio feature stories related with politics and human rights in Burma.

Between 2010 and 2015, Nay Thwin became a columnist or regular contributor for many Burmese language magazines including Chiangmai based Irrawaddy magazine. 

In 2016 under new political opening and transition in the Burma, he returned his home country and became a host and producer of popular televised debate show called DVB Debate.

However, the oppression against free press and journalists, following the military coup in 2021, Nay Thwin left his country and currently residing in Australia.

Responding to news of the arrest of five individuals from Myanmar, including three journalists from the Democratic Voice of Burma (DVB) news outlet, by the Thai authorities in Chiang Mai on 9 May, Amnesty International’s Deputy Regional Director for Campaigns, Ming Yu Hah, said:

Myanmar reporters, activists arrested in Thailand

BANGKOK, May 11 (Reuters) - Three reporters and two activists from Myanmar have been arrested in Thailand for illegal entry and face possible deportation, the reporters' news organisation and local police said on Tuesday.

Broadcaster DVB (Democratic Voice of Burma) said the five were arrested on Sunday in the northern city of Chiang Mai and it appealed to Thai authorities not to deport them to Myanmar, where the news organisation has been banned by the junta.

Myanmar journalists and activists arrested in Thailand after fleeing across border

Police in Thailand arrest 3 journalists who fled Myanmar

BANGKOK (AP) — Three senior journalists working for a news agency in Myanmar who fled after the military government ordered its operations to stop have been arrested by police in northern Thailand, their editor said Monday.

The three work for DVB, also known as Democratic Voice of Burma, an online and broadcast news agency, its executive director and chief editor, Aye Chan Naing, said in an email. Burma is the former name for Myanmar and is still used by some opponents of military rule.
